For those men who are keen on taking care of themselves, but haven’t a clue where to begin, the following is a basic guide to start off with simple skin care. The starting point is to know your skin type because then you will know which skin creams to use. Male skin is generally thicker and oilier than female skin, which is a bonus as it means that men will have fewer wrinkles; however when they do wrinkle, the lines are usually deeper. There are five skin types. The following will help to find which skin type is yours.
Combination Skin Type
Combination skin has a mix of dry skin and oily skin. The oily patches are usually found on the forehead and down the centre of the face, including the nose and chin. The dry parts are usually found on the cheeks and around the eyes. The solution to this is to either use separate products on the different skin types or to get a product for combination skin.
Sensitive Skin Type
Sensitive skin tends to react to different elements like the sun, the wind and extreme temperatures. Certain skin products may cause sensitive skin to react by breaking out in pimples or getting a rash. The best products to choose for this skin type are fragrance-free and hypoallergenic, especially designed for sensitivity.
Dry Skin Type
Dry skin suffers in winter, feeling tight and scaly. Dry skin is often dull and can feel rough to the touch. Moisturizer is absolutely essential for dry skin to replenish the skin. It is best to use a cream cleanser rather than gel washes and make sure to choose a good moisturizer designed for dry skin.
Oily Skin Type
Oily skin is easily identifiable by the shine. It is also prone to blackheads and pimples. Oily skin generally has bigger pores than the other skin types. Oil-free skin products need to be used on oily skin and not soap products. A soap-free gel wash is a good idea and include a regular weekly face mask for best results.
Normal Skin Type
Normal skin has good moisture and elasticity and is the skin type everyone wishes for. Be sure to look after it with a daily skin routine of cleansing, toning and moisturizing using skin products for normal skin.
Because men also have to add shaving to their skin routine, choose a shaving product that is best suited to your skin type. Regularly go through the skin care routine, and you will feel and see the results.
